‘Throw the Kale’ is a card with a pop out paper kale that celebrates Shetland’s tradition of Kale Castin.
For those who don’t know what Kale Castin is: it’s a tradition of fun that takes place over the dark Winter nights. Kale is grabbed and pulled from the crops and thrown in the homes of unsuspecting people (who are more accustomed to this tradition as the kale casters expect, and will give as good as they get - making a fine match for the high spirited fun of the trickery).
It’s a tradition with a superstition of good luck and good fortune (as much of the skekkling tradition is).
